Volkswagen's VW Cup
A gamified training and compliance platform designed to make dealership learning feel like competitive fun.
Overview
I created the site concept and designed the badge system for VW Cup, focusing on gamification strategies to enhance employee engagement and learning outcomes. I designed patterns like achievement tracking, point systems, and leaderboard mechanics, aligning them with industry best practices for digital learning environments.
The work involved implementing a user-centric design that encouraged participation and progress while integrating compliance tracking features and real-time performance feedback for dealership employees.
Dashboard, Badges & Weekly Challenges
Every mechanic in VW Cup was chosen for a specific behavioral
reason. The points and level progress gave technicians a
visible, closable gap to chase. The badge collection turned
that progress into something they owned and curated. I scoped
the leaderboard to quarter and region rather than the full
national network, so a technician sitting a few spots from the
top of their own board had a reason to keep checking in. Surfacing
certification status alongside the game layer mattered too,
connecting point-chasing to something technicians already took
pride in and giving the badges real weight instead of feeling
like decoration.
Urgency was reserved for a single rotating
weekly challenge carried the platform's only real deadline
pressure. Everything else ran on progress, ownership, and
standing, the kind of motivation that holds up over a full
quarter without burning technicians out. This wasn't a
consumer app competing for someone's idle attention. It was
something a technician opened as part of their actual job, and
the system had to earn that attention week over week, not just
on launch day.
