Pagebound
Shared reading sessions with spoiler-free discussion: read together, stay in sync, and never see an ending early.
Overview
Reading with friends falls apart in the details. Everyone reads at a different pace, the group chat runs ahead, and one excited message spoils the ending for someone three chapters behind.
Pagebound is a social reading app built around that problem: read together, stay in sync, and never see a spoiler. Friends start a reading session on the same book, log their progress as they go, and talk about it without anyone getting ahead of anyone else.
In Development
Pagebound is running and in active development. A working demo, like the one for Pour, is on the way.
Design Decisions
- Spoilers Gated by Chapter. Every message in a session is tied to a chapter, and only readers who have reached that chapter can see it. Everyone else sees a signpost with the chapter number, so they know the conversation is waiting for them.
- Progress You Can See. Each session shows every participant on a shared timeline. Signposts on the timeline mark where unread messages sit, without revealing what they say.
- Friends First. Readers find each other by username, send requests or a shareable invite link, browse each other's bookshelves, and start a session together from a friend's profile.
- Identity That Holds. Friendships and history are tied to a permanent account ID rather than an email or username, so people can change either without losing their connections.
- Built on AWS. Accounts, confirmation emails, and password resets run on Amazon Cognito; friends, sessions, and discussions live in DynamoDB behind AWS Lambda, deployed with AWS Amplify.
